Chives are small, bulbous perennials that grow in clumps and can reach up to 12 inches in height. They have thin, tubular, grass-like leaves that emerge in spring and continue to grow throughout the season. In mid-spring to early summer, chives produce attractive, globe-shaped clusters of pale purple flowers.
