Blue False Indigo is a showy, long-lived perennial that anchors the garden with striking vertical interest. In late spring to early summer, elegant, lupine-like spikes of deep blue-purple flowers emerge above lush, blue-green foliage, attracting a host of pollinators including bumblebees and butterflies. A member of the legume family, it naturally enriches the soil by fixing nitrogen.
After the blooms fade, the plant develops unique, charcoal-black seed pods that add architectural interest through the fall and winter, often making a distinctive rattling sound when dry. Once established, this deer-resistant, drought-tolerant plant is remarkably low-maintenance, thriving for decades in the same location.
Seeds benefit significantly from a period of cold, moist stratification to break dormancy. Mix seeds with a moist substrate (like sand or vermiculite), place in a plastic bag, and refrigerate for 6–8 weeks before planting.
Packet contains at least 30 seeds
